Pros

The company is still doing very cutting edge work in most parts of the company. Salary is competitive and crunch time is minimal. Lots of experienced engineers to learn from. Benefits are still very good too, including six weeks of paid time off including holidays. Everybody's heard of Tektronix, so the name is good on a resume, too.

Cons

Budget is king and spending money is heavily discouraged, so research and development (a formerly big component of expenditures) is highly limited. The constant push for efficiency as mandated by the parent company (Danaher) has eliminated the 'Tek culture' which was a mainstay of working there during the prior 30+ years. Employee turnover is very high; a mixture of layoffs and employees leaving for better opportunities has gutted core talent in multiple business units.

Pros

The employees at the El Segundo office are very nice. On a personal level, they are great folks.

Cons

I question the professionalism, particularly that of the local management. Corporate in Beaverton doesn't seem to know that this is a hostile work environment. Management has demoralized the teams, and it continues to get worse. They have lost three employees in three months. Both members of the Software QA team quit within two weeks of each other.

Still a great company, but lacking growth opportunity for staff.

Pros

Very knowledgeable people who are great to work with.

Cons

Little to no staff development and growth opportunity. When Danaher took over, the basis -innovation in development of test & measurement technology - was reduced to driving incremental (technology) changes. Cutting cost is too dominant, leading to short-sighted decision making.
