Pros

A top 5 manufacturer in most product categories, although distant and trailing position behind market leaders Stable product platforms, basics for the markets served Most employees "the doer's" are pleasant and hard working Latest CEO has a strong track record and respect of the industry If you can outwit and outlast wave after wave of the zombie horde, by default you might be successful

Cons

Very limited opporunity for career advancement, often described internally as a place where poor managers go to ride out their deficient careers - abundant glass ceilings Commodities business with a "buy" mentality, limited innovation or investment in human capital, goods or services Significant gaps between "Have's" and "Have Nots" Handful of good Director's and VP's; however, lackluster/immature/insecure leadership is pervasive Dismal facilities in RTP, only trumped by insufficient merit increases and non-existent bonus payout structure Revolving CEO door; high degree of employee turnover

Pros

Able to work from home at least once a week. Peers are usually nice. Paid training (at least for our group).

Cons

Advancement Opportunities are usually taken by permanent contractors. Pay is about 20% less than what it should be for equal positions elsewhere. Company going on second year without Merit increases but we are hiring lots of contractors and our profits look good to investors! Benefits (medical/dental/Vision) are below average. You'll need Co Insurance. PTO is 2 weeks for beginners, which includes Sick days. that's right, no separate Sick time off. Management (all levels especially IT Senior) are not effective in promoting or building employees to succeed or advance. The "It's all about people." philosophy is heard but not seen. Management style is tyrannical, "My Way or the Highway" style and intimidation.

Pros

The people are very friendly. It is the type of place where you walk down the hallway and even if you don't know the person, they will greet you. The vacation time is good and the managers can be very flexible. The atmosphere is causal yet professional. They also have different newsletters that keep you up to date with what is going on within the company worldwide. Too, they are willing to hire current college students for co-op and intern positions and if you do a decent job, maybe even full-time work.

Cons

Paying the investors seems to be the biggest priority and not the employees. They try to make up for the so so pay with company perks like "employee appreciation day" and an onsite "gourmet" over priced cafeteria, when all people want is decent pay! Business decisions don't always seem so wise and the CEO doesn't really seem to have a clue regarding what is going on in the world below him. Beware as to who you speak your mind to, because you never know who's listening and trust me, they are! There is poor communication between departments and even though we all work for the same company, people seem to be working towards their own agenda. There is rampant favoritism and brown nosing happening and if you have the right manager, that will get you way farther than you deserve!
