Cost-cutting is the main business model

Pros

Working at Teleflex gives an employee the opportunity to learn about offshore manufacturing and operations

Cons

Teleflex sells a lot of “me too” products. They are not differentiated from the competitors. This is because they have never really funded R&D over the years. Instead, they chose to invest in financially distressed companies, dramatically cut their workforce and moved their manufacturing to Mexico or Czech Republic. Many of their products have little to no patent protection, and innovation is not encouraged or valued. Cost-cutting breeds layoffs, no or low salary increases, poorer quality products, and this is a way of life at Teleflex. Even surviving the layoffs, it was still unsettling as management continually shifted people around to segregate lower margin product businesses. An employee in a lower margin business unit is not offered the same opportunities as an employee that is in a higher margin business.

Pros

Teleflex is a great company to work for, recognizes hard work and develops talent. As the company continues to reshape itself, more opportunities are posted internally as well as new blood injected in the process.

Cons

Growing too fast, speed of change sometimes can be a little too aggressive

Pros

New office building, good location.

Cons

Pay increases, promotions, and bonuses are based on favoritism and company politics instead of overall performance. Constant restructuring, mergers, and acquisitions create constant instability and a lack of job security. Promotional advances are undefined, unclear, and vary from department to department.

Teleflex Response

Teleflex has a well-defined performance management system, which enables a pay for performance application for compensation programs. Acquisitions are driving growth and in no way cause instability. We are consolidating our manufacturing centers and this restructuring program is driving greater cost efficiencies and productivity, which are vital to our success as a healthcare supplier. Promotions are based on individuals demonstrating potential for higher contributions in more responsible roles.
