      Promising company that's not short of shortcomings

      Pros

      + The mission of our work and the numerous smart people driving what we did at Tempus was very inspiring + Nimble company that quickly responded to changing focus, needs

      Cons

      - Pervasive feeling of ingroup and outgroup with most of the company (and particularly leaders) being ex-Grouponers - External barriers in the healthcare industry posed a challenge for the core of Tempus' work - Felt like my function was under a great degree of undue scrutiny, almost dismissal - Pay is far below benchmark - For a startup, collaboration was lacking - Top leadership didn't seem open to having a dialogue with employees

      - "crunch" mode 24/7 - working nights and weekends is the norm - below-market pay for a well-funded startup - unclear promotion/salary transparency - unlimited PTO with a workaholic culture where people rarely not take time off - no official paid parental leave policy - no matching 401k - average health insurance benefits, but poor for a healthcare company - a new policy that discourages working from home - an open office that is extremely cramped and full of distractions - no cultural values from top leadership that feel believable and transparent

      Pros

      Incredibly talented people doing cutting edge science and building impactful technology Technology stack using latest platforms. Fast paced decision making to adopt new/good technology. Truly collaborative environment - everyone working together and sharing information / teaching what they know

      Cons

      If you need consistent routine work, you will probably struggle at this phase of the company. There are lofty goals in a challenging domain and you need to be able to solve problems on a regular basis that aren't 'google-able'.
