Pros

Smart colleagues in bioinformatics and cancer-centric mission

Cons

Successful start-ups with over $1B in funding don’t overwork & underpay their primary workhorses (in this case, scientists and lab staff) and fire account & BD reps who are experts on the products and on the front lines with customers. It’s way too heavy on ignorant middle management who contribute nothing to the growth of the business. IMO this company is doing everything backwards and not operating like a well-funded start-up. There is no commercial or regulatory strategy, no bonuses or 401K, and very high turnover.

Pros

You'll find there are many smart, very accomplished people on your team and those around you. It's exciting to be surrounded by others who share a passion for advancing healthcare. Tempus is also a place where things move fast (which can be both good and bad) and you have a chance to learn and get thrown into different situations very quickly.

Cons

While the people are great and the mission's admirable, the culture really lacks. As others have noted, compensation is significantly below market and raises, when they come, fall well short of what you would receive elsewhere. Tempus has also grown very quickly and without real interest in developing the right tools to support at scale, which often lead to significant confusion, frustration, and burnout. As a result, turnover and feeling valued has been a real issue. Leadership, has largely shrugged this off and dismissed it as a by-product of being at a growing company. My advice: if you're looking for a first job where you can learn the ropes, this is a great place. But do your homework and ask the tough questions before signing up, otherwise.

Work here if you want poor comp, poor management, and bad company culture

Pros

It's in the area of cancer research

Cons

- no 401k match - non-competitive base - no bonus - not a ton of opportunity for career growth, aka your responsibilities won't change - there's a clear "boys club," and don't be surprised if you deal with sexism - no boundaries, I have been slacked at 11 pm at night, and slacked at 4:30 am in the morning - the classic-- not giving internal people proper raises or title adjustments, but will hire externally with more comp (but still isnt competitive) even if it takes them 6 months - 1 year to provide close to the same value - general unprofessionalism
