Pros

Exciting industry, access to new tech

Cons

As mentioned here many times, a huge portion of the company are directors or VPs with little experience in the field and poor leadership skills. Tempus follow the standard Lefkofsky model of hiring an army of underpaid young people to slave away with manual labor while marking the company externally as high tech. Very toxic work environment, many bad personalities are kept around because the only value they provide is they are willing to crack the whip.

Making a difference in patient care

Pros

The mission of Tempus is noble and each day is a step towards improving patient care. People work here because they want to make a difference for current and future cancer survivors! The work environment is friendly and everyone pushes to make a difference and improve the space. Despite having grown to 300+ people, it still has a start-up work environment. This means anyone who is a self-starter can make a difference. If you identify a problem, you can come up with a solution, present it and it's very possible that it will be utilized. It's not very hierarchal, which means everyone can have a voice and implement change. Amazing co-workers who push you to do your absolute best. No clear career ladder, which can be both a good and a bad thing. Good: you can move into different spaces/positions relatively seamlessly if you fill a need. Bad: you have to be an active participant and promotions aren't just assumed. Unlimited PTO. If you're driven, focused, smart, and don't mind long hours, you'll succeed at Tempus.

Cons

The biggest downside is the lack of work/life balance. There's always more work to be done and a culture of constant "emergency mode" to build/fix something. This is gratifying, knowing you make a difference, but can be exhausting. A self-inflicted culture of not feeling comfortable to take a lot of time off, despite unlimited PTO. No 401K match.
