Pros

Clients are high profile You get paid Managers are horrible but besides them everyone seems to be nice

Cons

-They do not provide the right tools for the job -Unorganized structure where managers are untouchable and blame everyone but themselves when something doesn't go the way they like -Micromanagement, you can expect 2 or 3 people to continuously ask you the same questions during the day just to see what's going on, these 2 or 3 individuals all do the same work, and none of it adds value to the project, they prefer to add a manager to the company getting paid more than the developers instead of adding another developer to the team

Pros

In the beginning, it was a great company with a positive atmosphere and talented people. The engineering teams had strong managers and PMs who provided good guidance. Work processes were clear, giving engineers the opportunity to focus on learning and delivering features effectively. There were also many skilled colleagues to collaborate with and learn from, which made it a rewarding place to grow. There are still nice people who care about you. Diversity and Inclusion are respected.

Cons

I’ve been putting off writing this review, hoping the company would improve, but I feel it’s important to share my experience. About a year ago, things started to change for the worse. New VPs took over roles they weren’t good at, which led to a lot of micromanagement and poor communication. Good employees were fired because they didn’t fit the management’s vision, which seems out of touch with reality. After that, more people quit because the workplace became toxic. I still talk to some of them, and a lot are thinking of leaving too. The biggest issue for me was the new VP of Engineering. From my experience, this person didn’t treat engineers with respect, often made inappropriate comments, and seemed to look for chances to put people down. It felt like the company wanted someone to push people hard instead of encouraging and supporting them. Why you might not want to apply to Testlio: - Career growth is limited. - Raises are rare or close to never, even if you perform well. - There’s a lot of micromanagement. - You won’t find much mentorship or learning opportunities. - Toxic management.

Hi, Thank you for sharing your feedback. This is Bill, VP of Engineering at Testlio. I'm sorry to hear that your experience didn't fully meet your expectations. We appreciate your feedback and are committed to fostering a positive and inclusive work environment. At Testlio, we are committed to our core values, including Team is Everything, and Foster Inclusion. Over the past year, we've evolved into a 100% remote company and Platform organization that operates by design without product managers. We understand that such shifts can be challenging, and we appreciate your perspective. While some engineers decided to leave because of these changes, after the summer of 2024 we have had zero regretted attrition. Please note that this year, we separated with two engineers based on company-initiated processes. These decisions came after extensive coaching and support. At the same time, we've demonstrated our commitment to building a strong Platform team by adding nine senior members—six senior software engineers and three managers. Regarding compensation, learning, and career growth, it's notable that all qualified full-time ongoing members of the Platform team received a 3% salary adjustment in April 2024 to account for inflation—an important step given the economic climate at the time. Additionally, 10% of the Platform team received additional compensation increases, with 5% also receiving promotions, based on exceptional performance. Testlio also offers a Learning Cookie stipend for all our people, in addition to extensive internal learning opportunities, like the Leadership Development program, which 11 Platform team members have gone through in the past 4 years. We take concerns about management style seriously. While we acknowledge your feelings, our recent engagement survey showed a notable increase in satisfaction within the Platform team. The statement "I am happy at Testlio" rose from 7.7 in October 2023 to 8.2 in November 2024 on a 1-10 scale (a 6.5% YoY increase). We believe this reflects our commitment to fostering a positive and supportive work environment and we're continually seeking ways to improve and support our team's well-being. As a fully remote company, our people are empowered to work in different locations, at different times, and in different ways. The people of Testlio and the flexibility of our work-life integration approach consistently are noted in our surveys. Thank you again for your feedback. We're dedicated to continuous improvement and open dialogue. If you'd like to discuss your experiences further, I welcome the opportunity to connect. Kind regards, Bill VP of Engineering

Pros

Testlio used to have a prestigious reputation so it might look good on your resume.

Cons

There are so many things wrong at the company that it’s impossible to list them all without sounding intentionally malicious. So instead know that two thirds of the product and engineering team has quit in the past 12 months. Make sure you ask the recruiter about that. By the way, the company doesn’t even provide a laptop for you. You have to buy it for your own money and you don’t get a full refund. Have you ever heard of an IT company that doesn’t provide working equipment?

Hello, Thank you for sharing your feedback and your concerns regarding our Product and Engineering Teams (we call this our Platform team). This is Bill Toulias, VP, Engineering at Testlio. To begin, here’s some important, transparent data meant to address your concerns about resignations. In the last 12 months, we’ve had approximately 50% attrition in the Platform team. This is ~2x our company average (as shared elsewhere, we average 5-6% per quarter). From close work with our people, including exit interviews, we believe that our evolution into a fully remote engineering organization, inclusive of closing our Tallinn office in October 2023, was a major driver for this higher chapter of attrition. We’ve since welcomed many talented engineers from multiple EMEA locations and have shifted to an exciting new way of democratizing product roadmap decisions via a focus on objective ROI quantification. We call this our Platform Advancement System and it’s operating in an efficient and effective way—intentionally without a product management function. Today, the Platform team is 25 people, ~12% of our total company headcount, and we currently have 4 positions open for new joiners. Your suggestion to ask about team dynamics during the recruitment process is well put. We encourage all candidates to have open conversations with our recruiters and hiring managers. In fact, a key step in our interviewing process is a discussion with candidates about their future team and the challenges of each role. It’s important to shape clear expectations and reach a joint consensus on the potential for fit. Regarding our equipment policy: as a remote full-time workforce spread across 40+ countries, we have moved away from a traditional laptop model. This was done to reduce logistical challenges and costs, given that we spend six figures annually on hardware. As of mid-2024, we provide all TestLions with the flexibility to use a laptop they already own or purchase a new one with an 80% reimbursement. After two years, people gain full ownership of their laptops. For all people who have been with Testlio for more than 2 years, we transferred 100% ownership of current company-owned laptops to the worker (with no expenses). And, we provide 80% reimbursement for a new laptop every 4 years. Meaning, that if you work for Testlio for six years, you are eligible to fully own 2 laptops at an 80% discount (company covered payment) over cost. We worked to put together a thoughtful laptop program, and truly believe that this is a win-win for everyone involved. Thank you again for your feedback. Kind Regards, Bill Toulias VP, Engineering
