Pros

Ethical, Good work life balance, Good if you plan to live in Dallas long term and work for the same company for years. Will not make risky decisions and play it safe.

Cons

Very difficult to keep some one who wants to advance in their career or rotate job functions to understand the company better. While the tech ladder is there to promote people who are individial contributors there is no clear career path for people who want to transition to the management ladder. It is mostly based on an old-boys network or who you worked with in groups before. No training program for new hires. It is difficult to motivate people who want to contribute more . Not many women in management roles across all groups in TI. Career growth for women is as good as who your manager is ( which is a risky proposition) and how supportive they are. There is always a concern that women may not make the tough decisions as good as men.

Pros

Large company, lots of interesting technology. i worked on Digital Light Processing which is now commonly found in HDTVs that are on sale in retail stores. Plenty of big company benefits including a credit union (TexIns), Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), 401(k) matching funds, free healthclub membership. Pretty good educational benefits including tuition reimbursement and televised education from local colleges broadcast live into company sites. If you can navigate through the big company system, you can reap a lot of benefits/rewards.

Cons

Company is too big. You feel like just a cog in the machine. Regardless of your personal accomplishments, it's difficult to make a large impact on the company bottom line when it is such a large multinational conglomerate. The company makes the vast majority of its money in semiconductor products which end up in other products. There is little consumer name recognition for Texas Instruments aside from the ubiquitous calculators. If you want to make a name for yourself in technology or with friends/family it will be nearly impossible at Texas Instruments.

Pros

Good knowledge sharing, good technical environment, good relationship with peers.

Cons

Promotion opportunities extremely limited. Opportunities to young engineers almost non-existant. Amazingly a company with this much brain power promotes managers based on seniority and not performance nor knowledge. Promotion criteria completely wrong.
