Pros

The children, families and fellow teachers are the best parts about working at the Goddard School. I also think that the name "The Goddard School" looks better on a resume than other more cutsie daycare names I have seen.

Cons

The focus on paperwork and marketing is sickening and takes away from the children and their care. The low pay especially compared with the HIGH tuition is very sad. Teachers are not given enough support or planning time to complete the extensive lesson plans required ( 2-3 pages of info PER DAY) and must do so on their own time. Many schools are owned by owners with no educational background and therefore do not understand child development...making money is the focus and goal. At the end of the day children are moved around from room to room like herds of animals with no regard to their feelings or needs for consistency resulting in preventable behavior problems. Children are transitioned, not when they are ready , but when it is convenient in regard to enrollment space. In addition to the daily lesson plans, daily activity reports, monthly posted lessons, bulletin boards, calendars, transition forms, and assessments we are required to complete portfolios on each child...again on our own time because rarely is planning time given on the clock. They are also opened for several holidays such as MLK day, Presidents Day, Columbus day, Veterans Day.

Pros

The families and children are wonderful!!!!

Cons

EXTREMELY overworked and underpaid. This company is ridiculous with their paperwork!! They claim to be "green", there's nothing green about them. They treat the employees like slaves and the children like cattle. They do not do what is in the best interest of the children. It's only about profit!! They "sell" this crazy curriculum to get the parents in the door. It's all fluff! To me, if you have to sell a curriculum like this, it probably isn't any good. The children get completely lost in all the paperwork that the employees are required to complete in a day. The "toys" are to be referred to as "learning materials". Hogwash! They are not even developmentally appropriate and very lacking in all the classrooms. Run from this company!!!!!!!
