Pros

If you get lucky and land the right immediate manager to shield you from the nightmare that is the head of CAT claims then you might be okay. Pay is okay. Pto and benefits are nice.

Cons

Of the 25 people who were hired with me and the number of employees that were there when hired there were approximately 5 people left by the 4 month mark. Overworked and understaffed. No one wants to stay in the department/high turnover. There has been times where they gave every individual in the department an official warning which also keeps you from moving to a different department. I took time off (bereavement) for a family members death and they gave me a final warning when I came back which I disputed and had overturned. The head of the department is an immature nightmare, but someone in upper management hired him so no one will do anything about it. Long hours especially in the fall. You have to work a lot of overtime. Management said you’re not allowed to work later than 7pm (and have no explanation as to why) which caused problems for people who have kids and need to eat dinner which further added to the number of people working off the clock. Working off the clock will get you in trouble so everyone hides it, but management forces people into doing it because no one can keep up and they get mad when you work overtime, but you also HAVE to work overtime in the fall as the number of claims is insane. I received over 40 claims in one weekend then 10-20 every day for periods of time. They told us we are expected to be able to get 6 new claims a day and handle it within our normal work hours.

Pros

-Plenty of PTO -Volunteer Opportunities -Lots of Learning Opportunities -Set Schedule

Cons

I started right when COVID began so I never have been in the office, only remote. The training was very extensive but it is hard to retain 2 months worth of training when you are learning something new practically everyday. The Hartford is very metric driven. I never hear or communicate with the managers unless I have done something wrong or have not hit a metric. There is plenty of PTO but it is part of a bidding system so it’s difficult to use it. The amount of material is extremely overwhelming. Trying to assist callers is so stressful because we get calls for a huge variety of things including things that aren’t even part of our department. Sometimes it’s hard to know the right thing to do without ever working in insurance before. The pay is kinda low and you are constantly yelled at by people all day. A very draining job and kind of depressing
