Pros

Remote work opportunities is the ONLY pro I can think of. Other than that, my experience was very very bad.

Cons

This company actively recruited me from a competitor and then proceeded to lay me off along with others 2 years to the day after being hired. Nice huh? Classless and clueless. Huge micromanagement issue in GA office, specifically BTA and Blanket lines. Never in my 25 years have I dealt with more rude, demanding reps who will throw you under the bus. Did I say rude? UNrealistic expectations with regard to workload. Just because people on the team regularly work 10 hour days and weekends ( but will not openly admit to mgmt) just to manage their workload doesn't mean it's right. That's a problem. Wake up. Because you lost a GREAT employee. One that was loyal to a fault. Stay away from The Hartford. Big promises. Big disappointment. I wish I had stayed where I was. Oh and I was hired to Underwrite but my unit was doing everything BUT underwriting. Glorified admin job with very low pay. My knowledge and experience was wasted. I could Underwrite circles around other folks since I'm used to actually analyzing experience data and formulating case rates. Not just mindlessly punching numbers into a spreadsheet for a premium. Will NEVER have anything good to say about this place. I'm done being polite and nice. It feels good to be honest. They let me down big time. Unfortunately, I'm still out of work. Thanks for nothing Hartford.

Pros

• Decent PTO, especially to start, but this is likely fairly common in the industry. • Ability to gain some training / experience and move on to a better employer. • 10 free mental health sessions per year - you're going to need them. • Your experience might be better in a profitable segment of the company, such as Commercial, but the company generally has some pretty deep cultural flaws as noted below.

Cons

• Executive leadership borders on cartoon villainy. Their commitment to DEI is laughable, and there can be no doubt they care not about the minions operating the money machine. • Middle management is inept and serves only to toe the line from said villains above, do not expect support of any kind. There are a lot of long timers / legacy staff that fumbled their way into these positions and cling onto them despite being completely unqualified; micromanagement, manipulation/gaslighting and passive aggression is common. • Compensation is poor and workloads are unmanageable. The Hartford's mantra is generally "do more with less", which basically means you will do the work of 2-3 people because those people were laid off or left and won't be replaced. • Perhaps because of the issues noted above, you will interact with bitter and angry people who are not pleasant to work with and make the job more of a slog than it needs to be. It's a fairly dog eat dog environment where people are only interested in how you can further their own goals and ambition. Work here at your own risk.

Loss of Flexibility

Pros

Six months ago, the best reason was flexibility but that has since been taken away with a mandatory return to office for all employees living within 25 miles of an office. This, despite pre pandemic status of "full time remote." So, now my answer on pro: is that collectively, employees have spoken out. So, the workforce itself is strong and has the courage to speak up with or without fear of retribution.

Cons

Employees feel like the senior executive leaders are not hearing them and that has impacted overall morale. Employees are disgusted by the one-size fits all method for working in a physical office. This has people impacted with the mandate on edge. And, those who are not directly impacted by this huge inconvenience are worried about their future for career growth.
