Pros

I learned why I do NOT want to work for a company like this.

Cons

The small commercial underwritertrainee (CORE) position is meant to herd in a bunch of candidates and get rid of the ones they don’t like before the training is over. DO NOT sacrifice your current career or livelihood to apply for a position as a CORE class trainee. I was promised many things that never happened. My teacher was not committed to helping me succeed. I was promised one-on-one sessions, extra mentorship, extra practice, and never received any of it. There were times I would ask questions and send messages to chat with my teacher and she would never reply to me. She played favorites and it was obvious. I was set up for failure. I think they decided day one who they would put their effort into and who they wouldn’t. I don’t think they planned on keeping me the entire time. I was given vague robot-like corporate puppet answers. As if they were reading from a script. No follow through. No reasoning. They don’t care about you. You are a machine that produces revenue. If they don’t like you, you’re out the door. They won’t waste another minute. I would rather work somewhere where management cares about my success and my future just as much as I do. I wanted to succeed and they didn’t care if I was there or not.

Pros

Depending on the area you may work with very smart people at the forefront of their field. You can build a career here if you find the right area. The flip side.... there are very few of these oases.

Cons

Politics, politics, politics. There are talentless hacks or mediocre technical people who are promoted and “recognized” often leading to perpetual success. For others, even if you are amazing at your job, jealous coworkers or manipulative managers will simply bury you and not let you get any credit. If you somehow make it through the morass through sheer will and hard work they will claim credit for “successfully managing you” and land another promotion. Avoid this company unless you want your success to be left up to a roll of the dice (you most likely won’t win regardless of talent or hard work) I also find it strange that the Glassdoor reviews have gone from 3.2 just a couple of years ago to 4.0 plus. What’s going on there?
