Pros

development and training programs for tech skills >5 weeks PTO bonuses and raises usually reliable

Cons

unclear communications at all leadership levels no org chart stability poor role definition - no job description no accountability for colleagues, especially if remote (may never join meetings and still get a raise because manager isn’t in attendance) very little transparency especially if remote (won’t know why your work is being deprioritized or changed, or why an urgent effort appears from nowhere) leaders either can’t or won’t use the digital tools they bring in, so many extra meetings on top of updating a “source of truth” no project management discipline, meaning no clear ownership over the definition or execution

Pros

You receive at base salary so you can get by, and pay for mental heath counseling during the stay at this job. Benefits, can get money back for having a gym membership, coworkers are nice for the most part.

Cons

The recruiters flat out lied about the commission structure. It is by far, the lowest in the industry. I was promised on average $2000 monthly bonuses, when in reality it's $500 which is like $250-$300 after taxes. You also have to hit their monthly forecasted numbers which is almost impossible, and to even get the $2000 commission on average you have to exceed upwards of 120% of the goal in premium AND count to receive these bonuses. The usual is about 80-90 policies a month and 90-100k in premium. Retention is low for over a year of employment, they use this "bindable authority" tactic to threaten your job..DURING TRAINING, They do not let you sell immediately, but use their UW's who you share the floor with grade your submissions, subsequently reject them if they do not like you, or think its good enough, while they'll glady bend the rules for themselves, Inconsistent directives from management which are always changing due to the failures of the current regime's process toward their insane EOY goals that are impossible to meet. Using outdated technology and processes, while increasing an already heavy workload. The company uses bottom of the barrel vendors like TIVLY to source 70-80% of their daily leads, which are total junk comparative to their conservative UW guidelines, The marketing team has really buried the department in this regard. The company is trying to be like their 2nd rate competitors, which makes no sense considering that HIG has been around for 190 years longer than the competition has. They call themselves ethical, and then hammer customers with 4 pay plans and obscene credit card surcharges and fees. Department has had major leadership changes in the past year with well-liked, quality leadership moving on, while replacing them with PI (personal lines) mgmt. who are deer in the headlights and have no basic idea on how Commercial Lines works whatsoever, just being directed to cross- sell, or do something, and when asking for support, receiving NONE because they do not know how to do the job themselves. Completely unqualified management. Department is completely metric driven, management clutches these pearls and continuously moves the goalposts on these 8-10 metrics to lower your bonus or threaten your job. That's about all they really do, besides conducting useless meetings. The C-Suite's just flat out do not care, and will use any excuse to keep money in their pockets and out of yours. They even go so far as to conducting a floor-wide meeting to tell everyone they're doing away with DEI, to everyone's shock and chagrin. Saying "we value inclusivity in the office, but not under DEI." - word salad, cause they don't have anything meaningful to contribute, PTO is impossible to take unless you plan it out 3-4 months in advance. When you do take it, there is no bell curve for missing the time, so you're just missing out on bonus that month, unless you can somehow meet goal, which is again, impossible. Lastly, there is no career advancement unless you live in Charlotte, San Antonio, Hartford or Scottsdale. Remote workers have no real chance at promotion, making this a dead-end job. Zero work-life balance. You will be stuck on calls past your shift time and expected to still sit there ready for a call 5 minutes prior to the end of your shift.
