Pros

My response mirrors some of the reviews I read. I find no remaining advantages or benefits, and there are no pros to working for this company. Therefore, I strongly advise against pursuing employment with them.

Cons

- Low wages - Back-to-back calls, with no time to catch your breath or give yourself a few seconds after mentally draining interactions - Handling angry, stressed, and frustrated customers who vent their frustration on you - Overwhelming monitoring by team leads leading to feelings of incompetence - Limited time allocated for system issues 8 hours year - Lack of work-life balance and consideration for personal matters - Expected overtime with negative consequences for not complying - Some team leads lacking empathy and prioritizing their metrics over employee well-being - Team leads Inconsistency in following company culture and atmosphere - Team leads condescending and patronizing behavior - Lack of direct answers from team leaders leading to uncertainty and potential micromanagement - Subpar benefits including high deductible plans and strict time off scheduling requiring advanced requests (as of date June 2024) - Company prioritizes metrics and calls over employee well-being, leading to an unhealthy work environment

Pros

- Great people, decent culture among teams (but YMMV) - Okay benefits - 401(k) match

Cons

- Forcing full-time remote employees to come into offices with no consideration for personal circumstances - Health plans are increasingly expensive while offering less year over year - Company prides itself on flexibility and work/life balance, but that'll diminish significantly once return-to-office is in force - Notorious for underpaying compared to other businesses in the industry - Low turnover means little room for advancement for those who choose to stay long-term

Pros

Financially stable, good people at the field level who are doing the work with the agents (underwriters, operations, claim). Small commercial is a well oiled machine and I would recommend working in that department. I would not recommend working in their middle market department though.

Cons

Specifically speaking on middle market (Not small commercial or life, etc.), The Hartford changes it's appetite far too often on commercial middle market business (gen ind, construction, tech, etc), to the point where agents consider them unreliable and it makes it difficult to write business in many cases, or play on the accounts they say they want to (but are ultimately afraid of, or don't have the upper management knowledge to understand). For an underwriter, The Hartford has by far the least authority of any carrier, which contributes to underwriting difficulty. Despite signing contracts with remote employees countrywide, they are now forcing them to come back into the office, proving they don't actually care about employees, their family situations, or the financial burden they will then place upon them as a result. Whether it is agent facing, or employee facing, they may not be able to be trusted. The Hartford talks a lot about DE&I, yet it rings hollow given their recent actions which disproportionally affect parents, women and minorities.
