It is a great stepping stone to get you better opportunities elsewhere, establish good collaborations from within the organization, and to perform solid scientific research.

Cons

It is very difficult to be promoted or to get a tenure-track position within the institute, as well as being extremely competitive.

Less about merit and more about politics. A tremendous amount of nepotism/cronyism is pervasive throughout Scripps.
