Pros

Friendly students and peers. Can meet lots of friends there.

Cons

Terrible HR. They support professors who don’t have any idea about how to manage people. Got yelled at and felt stupid.

Pros

Support from graduate student office is decent, with competitive stipends and very competitive benefits. Additional money is available for conference travel and lots of support is there for successful and well funded labs. Many faculty run spin-off companies that regularly employ fresh Scripps PhDs.

Cons

Many PIs are old school (abusive) and administration is so distant as to be non-existent. They doubled down on this recently by selling their satellite campus and abandoning faculty and students alike.
