Not Worth It

Pros

Hypothetically, the pay is limitless.

Cons

For the amount of trauma and bullying from "leaders", this job is absolutely not worth it. You're ramped for three months with insane call and meeting quotas in an extremely oversaturated market. Don't expect any work / life balance in this position. Would not recommend in any capacity.

Pros

You get to work with some pretty amazing clients and the “who’s who” of your city.

Cons

I think this depends largely on what office you are in so I’m only speaking from my experience but there was a constant revolving door of sales reps when I worked here. You work crazy hours your first few years and they would say “don’t expect to make a doctors salary without working doctor hours.” We were not allowed to take any vacation time unless we hit a sales club for the year. Our office manager and multiple other coworkers were verbally abused on multiple occasions by a rep who just did not get along with anyone. We were told to flush $20 bills down the toilet if we didn’t make enough appointments each day. Had to pick up my “leader” from their house because they were too hungover to drive and then they thought they were having a heart attack and made me run three red lights and drive them to the hospital. Fun times!

Want to work 70 hours a week?

Business Outlook

Pros

Get to make as much as you want. Everyone is really nice in the beginning.

Cons

They push you like crazy to be successful in the shortest amount of time. Telling you to work 12 hours a day and weekends. In order to build your business fast, or build it slow and your base pay goes down each month and not have enough money to pay your bills. When stuff goes wrong they tell you it’s a mindset…certain offices are better than others. Some sales reps will straight up take your clients or call on your people you are calling on. For the whole company we have 2 people in tech. It’s so out dated. I have never been so depressed then working here and at this point I am in to deep and have put way to many hours in to give up. So many new hires cry everyday and the reps just tell them it’s okay that’s normal. NOT NORMAL then they quit.

We do not expect 70-hour work weeks from our new partners. In general, this is not our management style. It is TRUE that many of the people we attract choose to work very hard in their first years of building their clientele. Our belief is that if we help people develop goals for the life they want to build, and help them develop an activity plan to accomplish those goals, they will use both their work ethic and their efficiency/creativity to figure out how to achieve them on a monthly basis. While it does take hard work to get your business off the ground here, it is not our culture to enforce a specific hourly requirement. If you would like to discuss anything further, please contact us at careerdivision@tomjames.com. We would be happy to listen more and address internally to the extent there are opportunities to do better. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review!
