Pros

Great place to cut your teeth to see if you can sell. Great Energy in the company and most people seem happy (even if its just the Koolaid talking)

Cons

Many College Kids start with Tom James. They will tell you they have 97% retention (thats a lie). 70% (or more) of the people who started with me are no longer with the company. They will tell you about stock options and guys who are worth $16 million in Tom James Stock (that guy was around when they started Tom James). Its a pyrmid company. They will tell you they can help if you struggle (not true). Its a lot of Koolaid drinking. They will tell you that you will be a better person (thats a mask for selling overpriced goods and making the top of the pyrmid richer). They will talk about your goals in life, then play that to try to get you to sell more. Seemed like no one really cared. If you don't work 80 hours a week you will be judged and/or yelled at. There IS NO SALARY. Don't buy the base pitch you will get during the interview.

Pros

The greatest sales organization in the world. Built soley on priciples and by charectar centered people. Though we are a massive salesforce (500+ worldwide) we maintain an extremely tight knit, family atmosphere. The people you meet within the company will be lifelong friends. You have the ability to write your own paychecks and schedules, and mingle with the most successful people in your city.

Cons

Like anything worth having you have to work hard. There is absolutely no room for slackers or people who want 'vacation days.' If you want vacation days go teach 2nd grade science. At Tom James, you build your business from the ground up. When you become successful it is because you made it happen. If you fail, it is your fault. There is no micromanagement whatsoever so this job requires highly motivated people, with a hunger and drive for success. This is my first job out of college and will be my only job for the rest of my life. It is a lot of work, long hours, and endless rejection, but so is every other sales job in the world!

Pros

Ownership in your company and unlimited income potential. That income potential is directly tied to your personal and character growth.

Cons

Leveraging talent while balancinig all aspects of the business. Sales is the primary focus; however, you need to develop strong organizational and technical systems to run a successful business.
