Management let coworkers judge and gossip about me due to my sexual orientation and political/religious beliefs. Coworker glued crucifixes around the store because I said I liked witchy things like crystals and herbs.
Unrealistic sales goals would result in shift cuts, but this would not be adjusted in the system, so this would result in skewed statistics.
Racist coworker said out loud in the back that she did not like helping black customers because they were “confrontational and felt threatened by her”. She also was extremely rude to a very sweet bi coworker of mine when he said he was talking to a guy he met on a dating app in conversation.
When I dyed my hair, I was told I had 4 weeks to change it or find another job. I wore a wig every shift that resulted in intense migraines (yet my racist and homophobic coworker never got a talking to).
You are expected to live and breathe Tory Burch outside of work and contact clients outside of work hours (This and as unrealistic, as I am in college)
Favoritism is apparent. Bulk buyers (against policy) are assigned to top associates to keep numbers up. Everyone else doesn’t matter.
Management never listens to concerns about hours or over hiring and under scheduling.
Do not expect compliments on what you do well, only expect comments on what you can do better.
You’re expected to lie about product to make it sound better. The matte black flemming is made of rubberized polyurethane but we were told to say “vegan leather”. If we didn’t, we were chastised, even though we were just stating what was on the website.
You have to take online courses on new product but most of those courses are there to paint Tory Burch as a God that you should look up to.
Tory Burch herself has been in hot water for bot only arguing with another lady at a large fashion event but also culturally appropriating other cultures (Portugal patterns important to fisherman in that area were labeled as Mexican, etc). All of this can be found online with a simple Google search, I am not exposing anything new.
You are called “negative” and told you are “bringing the team down” if you are berated by a customer to the point of tears and proceed to tell your frustrations to coworkers.
“No personal conversations on the floor” was told to me by a manager when I asked a coworker “How’s it going? What’s new?”
TLDR: Company cares about how it looks on the outside, but not about racism or homophobia from sales people. You can be told your nails are inappropriate for being a sage green color, but coworkers who bully you for how you are as a person will not be disciplined. When you work for Tory, you are her property, not a person. She says she supports women, but not the ones who sell her products.
