Pros

If you like kids, there will be a ton of them there. There are a lot of toys to play with as well if you're into that sort of thing. Overall a good "first job" type of place where you can screw up a lot and not get in trouble or fired. If you work in the morning, there is a lot of time to get your job done, after the store opens however, every single person is an associate and cannot continue their regular duties.

Cons

No training at all. The managers kept all of the hourly employees in the dark as to how the store was doing or where we were at. The only thing management cared about was protection plans and not punching in too early. When my job position switched after a week of working as an associate, no further training toward my new job was completed. I was told to come in earlier and that was it, no formal about my new duties. For a month I was only doing two portions of my job until new management came in and told me that I actually had several other duties. Returned/used merchandise was returned to the floor to sell as new, even though some items were obviously used. No one ever said, "good job" or "bad job, do it this way instead." I wasn't doing my job right for a month and the managers said nothing.

Pros

The people are very nice. Other stores will help you when you have questions. Everyone wants the company to be successful and are willing to work any amount of hours and make personal sacrifices to make it happen. The company used to have no "season" which allowed vacation and personal time to be taken during holidays, however this year things seemed to change and it looks as though time off during holidays will be going away to provide support to TRU this is based on conversations with people who still work for the company,

Cons

Advancement is based on how much the DM, RVP, HR, LP like you, not on store performance or personal performance . The CEO is ruining the brand. The store have had hours cut in half and managers are performing a lot of the hourly jobs as well as still having all of the managerial responsibilities. Many long team managers seem to be driven out of the company or can not adjust to all of the changes.

Pros

The enormous wealth of knowledge you can gain from experienced team members, knowing about the deals and promotions before anyone else, ability to earn decent vacation and paid time off based on the hours you work. Also, they have a vast amount of knowledge on the company intranet so that you can search and learn basically anything about the functions within the store and the various products.

Cons

The biggest downfall that I've found while working at Babies R Us is the lack of professionalism through out the company. Every where from store level all the way up to corporate it seems like there isn't much follow through and there is a general lack of commitment. There are high expectations for the Dept. Supervisors (and part time associates, for that matter) yet no training program set in place. Its a sink or swim mentality and you are ultimately the decider of your fate in the company. There are a lot of empty promises and very few rewards for your accomplishments. Hard work is expected and the only reward you get is a pin for your name tag. They consistently do contrary to what they promise and blame it on the circumstances. They promise and/or threaten to keep written proof of accomplishments and pitfalls in order to manipulate a persons performance. There is very little management involvement and straight answers are difficult to come by. A lot of issues seem to be taken personally and you can always find management standing around gossiping with their favorite associates. Over all it is a very frustrating atmosphere to work in and the only thing that has kept me there so long is the Supervisor team I work along side.
