Pros

The customer base and clientele are great, (aside from sexism I got from both male and female customers...I was an assistant store manager, female), I loved my regular customers and those new to TSC. The teams I worked with in the three stores I was employed at have become some of my best friends. The health, 401K, dental, and employee discounts were better than average (but not outstanding)

Cons

Although there are many things I can go on about, the breaking point of my employment at Tractor Supply was the balance between work and my personal life. I started as a part time team member, and progressed quickly, being promoted in four months time to a full-time team leader, and a year later to an Assistant Store Manager. I made a competitive salary, though only competitive because of the mandatory overtime each week. I worked 48+ hours all year, and every Wednesday I worked at least 11-13 hours with one half hour break. My team worked their absolute best, and yet, regardless of anything we did, upper management picked on us unfairly in comparison to the other stores in our district. My Store manager, team leaders, and myself, worked over our hours for months to try and prove ourselves to our District Manager(s). I witnessed my boss break down on more than one occasion with the stress the store caused her. I could go on, with countless stories and details. I loved my job, and I was great at it, our team flowed effortlessly for our management team. Yet, I constantly thought about TSC, eat, sleep, breathe: Tractor Supply Company. For this main reason, I quit my job. I'm 21, and I couldn't take the corporate BS any longer.

Pros

Agri minded community, should be flexible, learned things from customers

Cons

Corporate bigwigs changing policies every two months or changing systems that were in place. I understand making changes to improve efficiency, profits, productivity, etc, but changing the entire systems and procedures (inventory, sales, restocking, freight) every two months wasted more man-hours and cost more in frustration and just busy work than it was worth most of the time. Why spend ten hours resetting the store if you’re just gonna spend ten more hours redoing it in a month or less. Why waste the time and supplies to reset everything!? If you set up a freight procedure, stick with it and let people get into the hang of it before you decide to change it up!! The reason it isn’t efficient is because you change it up all the time and everyone has to retrain!! Wasted time, money, supplies, etc. alllll over the place in almost every aspect of the store. And trying to work on 5% labor budget is absolutely ridiculous!! This isn’t Walmart or DG, where you don’t really have to help most customers with anything. TSC really pushes trying to ask questions to find out what the customer is really needing and helping the customer all the way through the sale. If you want excellent service, more than two people should be scheduled!! Customers needing load-outs, chicks, restocking feed, unloading trucks, etc, take up a lot of time and one person getting stuck at the only register with lines backed up to the back of the store while the other is running around trying to complete the “daily tasks” is madness and exhausting, especially for low pay.

Pros

Pay is decent, lots of opportunity

Cons

Hours suck with the new Schedule tool, you can't plan for any sort of regularity. Plan on shifts with no team members to help. Recent flooding in my area and only two of us could make it in. We were told tough luck, you have to work all day. 7am to 930pm Sorry, but the pay aint that good. Once you start abusing your team and not giving a crap about our safety or well being, its time to stop caring about your bottom line.
