Pros

The best part of working at Trader Joe’s is the company culture that surrounds it. Every crew member (not managers) got along in the store and got together for occasional parties/outings. Health and retirement benefits were also top notch, as well as a really good employee discount.

Cons

Micromanagement of certain “mates” or store managers (TJ does a ship theme) and their holier than thou attitudes. The measly $14 an hour compensation with just a .60 cent raise every 6 months is bizarre for essentially knowing the whole store and working every single section in it. The compensation is absolutely laughable and you only cap out at $25 an hour from what I remember. In addition, it felt like you are being watched 24/7 by a camera of managers and if you go to take a sip of water, they will record it and then make a complaint to the big boss, which diminishes your ability to get the joke of a .60 cent raise, defending it by “you aren’t working hard enough”.

Pros

The last 15 years of my job as a manager was the most rewarding experience I have ever had at a job. It was team-oriented and we spent the time getting to know each other so that we could use those strengths and areas of opportunity. The benefits and pay I believe are the best in Retail. If you really see how much health insurance costs and the tab that Trader Joe's pays is significant. If you are a go-getter, If you are ready for a challenge physically and mentally. I promise you. You will CRUSH IT at Trader Joe's. You will be rewarded for your longevity, effort and can make a very good living. I thought I would retire there. I still believe if you got the energy compassion and the ability to brush each day off. You Got this.

Cons

Generation X management not getting to know the new employees entering the market. Using old school techniques with a new post covid retail environment. ( adjust is a must) Trader Joe's will DO ANYTHING to make their customers happy. And they still do to this day. Not adjusting to the changing environment of mental health, training in dealing with difficult customers and employees. CORE Values are AWESOME. I miss them.

Pros

The discount is pretty good. Availability of unique food items is nice.

Cons

The leadership in the store is abysmal. There are numerous examples of retaliation that goes unchecked and even when these issues are brought up to Corporate or C-Level upper management, nothing gets fixed. No investigation. No resolution, just MORE RETALIATION. Trader Joe's is a joke. I've never been a fan of unions, but it's starting to make sense why so many stores are voting for them. Currently, looking into a union for this store. And I say again - I've never thought of joining a union until this someone got transferred here. If you're a union rep reading this post, please come by Store 195 Location there would be plenty of people to talk to. They are unhinged at this location. It would be wise to demote this person down to and let them try harder to be a better human.
