Pros

Awesome people, friendly environment, good discount on already low prices. Rarely ever had a negative customer interaction

Cons

They don't pay enough to match the good reputation they're riding on. Boss was homophobic; as a libertarian company, it's less "I support you" and more "as long as it doesn't affect me." People do awful things and just get transferred, especially mates. Misogynistic comments, dating crew members, inappropriate or even nonconsensual interactions, all of it gets swept under the rug as they transfer the employee somewhere else. They're union busting hard, they're suing the national labor relations board to get rid of ALL worker protections. They gaslit me for months trying to get me to quit so they wouldn't have to pay benefits, Policies are enforced sporadically, dependent on favoritism. They have the lowest prices in town, but they mainly open stores in high income areas

Going downhill fast

Pros

The benefits of working for TJ’s have gone downhill massively within the past decade, but specifically since the pandemic and the creation of Trader Joe’s United, the Union. Insurance continues to get more expensive for less coverage, corporate is so disconnected from the store level that they have no idea what is actually good for the company. They are riding the wave of how they used to be head and shoulders above others when now they are maybe eyebrows above at best.

Cons

The push to unionize has created hostility between the corporate office and the crew at store level. They no longer care for employees as people like they once did. If you want a job to get yourself through for a time, it’s fine. But if you need a career or a long term job, don’t do it. It will destroy your body and leave you with a sad resume that no one will take seriously.

Pros

Customers are typically very nice and the movement in the job allows you to never feel bored with what is going on. There is flexibility in scheduling unlike other jobs I've had.

Cons

I have reported several people during my time at Trader Joe's for violating my safety, personal life, and straight up bullying and there was nothing that was ever done about any of these people. Harm was being threatened on me and the man who was threatening me faced no repercussions. There is a problem at this store with physical harassment and verbal harassment. Bullying seems to be ok. Harassing someone seems to be ok. This job has left me extremely unwell and as hard as I worked, it wasn't ever enough for anyone to take my concerns or safety seriously. I would highly suggest applying to a different store or job altogether and save yourself.
