Store management and corporate management don't seem to communicate at all. Everyone is constantly being asked to do more with less, which ends up overloading retail. I saw dozens of talented technicians leave the company because of the canned responses that corporate management would give. If store managers knew how to run a service department (or knew to let the experienced technicians lead), the store experience was fine. It's when out-of-industry store managers come in and impose their way of doing things that the store starts to crumble. Trek always talks about receiving feedback, yet doesn't require their store managers to learn from more experienced technicians about service operations. Not giving your experienced, underpaid mechanics a voice is an easy way to lose talent.

Upper management is oblivious to daily retail operations and the hard working employees. They only base their evaluations on skewed metrics that don’t represent actual numbers and allow managers to doctor these numbers on a regular basis to look they way they are told they should be.
