Pros

You get to set your own hours and have a real sense of autonomy. In addition, my boss is very supportive and always has my back, whether it be providing course materials to aid my sessions with the clients or speaking with parents who have any issues.

Cons

Cost of transportation is taken upon the employee and we are hired as contractors. The work varies hugely on demand and specific factors such as: which semester is it, what courses you are able to teach, etc.

Pros

The franchise owner in my area is helpful and supportive. I have only been in contact with corporate a few times, and they are helpful and passionate about their services. I don't have to handle the money; I just get a check each month! The work on my end is easy, fun, and enjoyable.

Cons

I would be able to charge MUCH more per hour if I were a private tutor.

tutor pay is poor. For example, they charge the client upwards of $42 per hour, and I only see $18 of it per hour. In addition, we are required to sign in and input logs which we are not paid for, so it simply eats up more time because in order to get paid, the tutor must input sessions with details of the meeting using an online system. My ID and password for this system did not work for 3 weeks, and then when I went to put hours in, the student was not listed under my care, so I could not input hours. They owe me $275.
