Pros

Flexible fun work. The cancellation policy is beneficial when students cancel on you last minute.

Cons

Tutor Doctor takes a huge cut, charging families 3x more than they pay the tutors without providing much service other than matching student and tutors. This large mismatch in fees and wage sometimes creates unreasonable expectations between families and the tutor. You are not paid for any travel expenses or time spent traveling. They also ask you to fill out session reports which no one ever reads; again, something you are not paid for. To top it all off, the payroll administrator frequently emails you insisting that you double and triple check your timesheets for accuracy. I haven't made a single mistake submitting my time but somehow I have been paid incorrectly 5 of the 12 months I've worked here and it is a huge hassle every month to make sure I am paid correctly.

Pros

It is a good side job with flexible hours. They ask you if you are willing to work with a particular student and you accept or decline. You work out the hours with the family you are tutoring for. They pre-screen the family and the home before you go tutor there.

Cons

Sometimes you don't get very many students or hours, so you definitely could not make a living wage from this job. This is the type of job to make some extra money on the side. I don't like how they pay per hour because for each student you would only have 1-5 hours a week on average. They do not compensate you for gas or time driving and you must provide your own materials for tutoring.
