Pros

-It has flexible hours - work from home - all you need is an internet connection and a computer

Cons

- low pay, they do not make it easy to get promoted to tutor II or tutor III - raise is only $1 which is insulting, and they will make it hard for you to get that when you ask for it. - Management will find any flaws in your sessions even if you have almost 100% ratings from the students - No benefits of any kind

Pros

actually no pros i can say.

Cons

the last month I worked for tutor.com, I get 19 ratings of 5 (the highest raing) and only 3 ratings of 1 (the lowest). My total average rating is 4.2, which is the criteria to promote from probatory level to level I. But they terminate my work. I wrote email to the director and VP, no response. They just need someone to kiss their ass, not really want someone has knowledge and know tutoring.

Pros

I love being able to teach a subject I love to students around the globe. It is also incredibly convenient . In fact this job was a godsend as it enabled me to become a digital nomad. I didn't have to worry about

Cons

Their business practice is incredibly shady. First off, they force tutors to become independant contractors UNLESS you are in the state of california. This summer they began to cut california tutors' hours. They did this with no warning. I personally think this is highly unethical. CA forces them to have proper employment practices yet they punish us for it? They also won't let us work more than 28 hours per week. This is clearly so they don't have to pay benefits. The thing that gets me is how ungranular the work process is. I'm one of the best tutors they have in my subject with consistent high ratings. I solve a lot of transfer questions that other tutors can't handle. Despite this all I get is a tiny promotion. I definately don't feel appreciated for the work I do, especially since I make more teaching in person (like 10X more)
