Pros

Promoted benefits and work life balance. Usually low stress fun and interesting work. The people are great, some of the best I have ever worked with.

Cons

Most "benefits" are at the discretion of the reining DE. Pay sucks so benefits are what get and keep people. They don't tell you that while they are trying to reel you in but it's unlikely you get to use them. No support for people who join TAPs. Good luck finishing that engineering degree, working and seeing your family. A lot of upper management dislike telework and do not support wellness programs. I feel like they publish these offerings to counter bad publicity but do not walk the line.

Pros

some ok people, a lot of training, tons of time off (since no paid overtime), good benefits

Cons

"Old boys club" and nepotism is rampant. Everyone seems to have known everyone in some way or another; as kids, from school, are/were married to someone in the work place, kids working under their parents, etc. One of the first questions I got asked by new co-workers was who I knew to get the job. Set in old ways. They have digital record keeping but some people refuse to learn how to use a computer and its still done with paper and a cardboard box. Management gets bored so they micromanage brain dead work because the events might get PR time, like snow/ice weather operations. Low pay, no paid overtime, if you're good at your job you get more work, while the person in the cub over is literally asleep and has an assistant. Really depends on the group you get into and who's running it. They shove policy/procedure and safety down your throat, throw some of it out the window to get a job done, and throw you under the bus if an accident happens sighting failure to follow proper procedure. Some of the people are lazy and/or are a-holes. Revolving door, the bad stay longer than the good, few good ones climb the ladder, most leave.
