Pros

I could go on and on about the previous glory of the UCB... but that's not what this review is about.

Cons

Mike McAvoy is probably the most toxic human ever, for any company. I feel bad for all those currently @ UCB. Under his "leadership" , its sure to be on a oneway trip downhill.

Pros

The comedy can be great, though the new management doesn't prioritize good shows, only profit.

Cons

Used to be a terrific place to work where staff was creative and supportive. With the new CEO, the work culture is completely opposite. Mike McAvoy micromanages every employee from a far. He insults everyone's intelligence. I heard him say bad things about every employee behind their backs. This has created a toxic work culture where employees feel emboldened to treat their co-workers poorly. Not to mention the complete lack of boundaries for the job. In addition to being treated like idiots, you are expected to work 80+ hours a week, while being insulted. The comedy is great, but maybe just watch the shows. Or even better, don't support an organization that would let a person with no theater or comedy knowledge abuse the staff.

Multiple Positions - All Poorly Managed

Pros

You get to be involved in the comedy world

Cons

Every level of professional position operates like a high school job, with friends managing friends, shirking duties and responsibility, low pay, and poor management skills. I have known so many people who found out they had been replaced before they were ever even approached about concerns with their performance. Your job performance can easily be undermined by unspoken concerns regarding stage performance and who you socialize with. Any position with this company, whether in the theaters, the training center, the production company, or the corporate offices should be considered unstable. This is a toxic environment, and I caution anyone against becoming involved.
