Pros

Intellectual oasis ! There is always the possibility to meet some professors from any field of interests. Libraries are wonderful, no need to use amazon.com.

Cons

Slow promoting competent people. This is not a financial fast track. Too low salaries for the west side of Los Angeles.

Pros

I went to UCLA as an undergrad so staying on campus was nice. It allowed me to continue to feel connected as I figured out what I wanted to do. It gave me time to earn an income while assess my career options. I was able to implement some positive changes during my time, which first started in my department then was rolled out to the entire campus.

Cons

I feel that being a state job, employees didn't feel compelled to help make the work environment better, by finding better, faster, or less expensive ways to accomplish things. I don't enjoy environments where I get promoted just by seniority.

Pros

The UCLA Recreation Department offers great classes and facilities. These are all at your fingertips when you are an employee. Also, for a full-time student, the ability to balance school with work was great.

Cons

Poor attitudes, misplaced priorities, and bad communication start at the top of the Recreation Department. I am very unimpressed with the senior management and the way they handle their staffing. I saw multiple middle-level managers come and go, and they ALL got burned. Expect the worst when it comes to how they will treat you and how they will terminate your employment.
