Pros

Pride in working for a world class medical center Working with smart people Demands professionalism at all levels

Cons

Physicians can be extremely harsh, bordering on abusive Managers are not compensated well for the workload and constantly increasing demands Heavily unionized Constant changes to policies just prior to JCAHO and other regulatory surveys UCSF lags behind in some practices, needing to play catch-up rather than being pro-active

research administration plagued by inefficiencies and office politics

Pros

working amongst the nation's brightest, most passionate doctors, researchers, and students. That in itself is inspiring.

Cons

- research administration is highly dysfunctional and inefficient due to lack of transparency, lots of office politics and favoritisms, ineffective mid-level managers... the list can go on. Overall, it's disappointing that such a high ranking medical research institution breeds a culture of mediocracy.
