Pros

Love my team, boss, director, and senior management so far (6+ months on the job). I love the way the infosec team is organized. Work is what I expected and they’re giving me the freedom to pursue some projects I feel are important as well as meeting goals. World class training is available if you want it. Remote work is flexible at least on my team.

Cons

Pay isn’t very good and not commensurate with skills/experience for the security teams. This backfires, resulting in significant attrition. This is a shame cause the infosec org could be great if talent was attracted and kept. If offers are lower here, you are likely to get less experienced talent (but not always!). Once that less experienced talent gets trained and skilled, they will leave to get a significant pay raise elsewhere that values their skill set. Classic “big org that’s been around a long time” tech and security issues. I knew what I was getting into with that.

Pros

- Affiliated with University of Pittsburgh, and that is the major pro.

Cons

- Cheap treatment towards employee. They expect you to spend from your personal income on work related expenses. Their reimbursement policy has many fine prints, trying to find every reason not to reimburse your legit expenses. The process to submit a receipt takes at least multiple attempts, each attempt lasting for half an hour. I usually need to call Helpdesk to get a receipt submitted. Management received this feedback multiple times, and failed to update that software. Rumor has it that they intentionally make it a painstaking process to request reimbursement, to persuade employees away from submitting. - Paid time off is inferior than the national average - They use multiple EMR systems, instead of one unifying EMR. Epic for outpatient and Cerner for inpatient.
