Pros

Job Rotation - learn many variable skills and gain responsibility early. You will rarely be bored or have the chance to become complacent Leadership Opportunities early in your career. Most private sector careers will not have someone manage 10M$ and be directly in charge of 15-35 people until their 40's. As an officer, it's your first job for most branches. Ability to retire at 20 years with guaranteed compensation cannot be overlooked when considering a career

Cons

Poor work/life balance - I have missed a substantial amount of my kids life, even when I am NOT deployed. Hard on families (deployments/field time) - travel exists in most jobs, but multiple year long deployments take their toll on families. Many field grade officers I know are disconnected with their families, even when home. Rank based off of time, not performance
