Pros

You get to do a lot of traveling and see/experience many things you would not get to do as a civilian. The nature of the Military's organizational structure and demands provides valuable experience for use later in life in a variety of situations. Not paying many of the usual bills that civilians also pay is very nice.

Cons

Not being able to do much when it comes to decision making if you are of lower rank. Even if you are the same age as somebody and may have more work experience if the rank on their chest is higher then it doesn't matter. Deployments are probably the biggest drawback, not seeing your friends or family for anywhere from 6-15 months is very hard.

Pros

Lots of responsibility very early on. I was a platoon leader in combat at age 24 and was trusted to lead 45 Soldiers on operations.

Cons

Long deployments, long hours, often very stressful conditions and people to work with. There are good and bad things about the job.
