Pros

Lots of responsibility very early on. I was a platoon leader in combat at age 24 and was trusted to lead 45 Soldiers on operations.

Cons

Long deployments, long hours, often very stressful conditions and people to work with. There are good and bad things about the job.

opportunity to serve our country opportunity to improve the lives of Soldiers and their Families collegial atmosphere rank has privileges travel opportunity basic housing allowance free medical commissary student loan repayment

Cons

no merit pay, therefore little incentive for stellar performance little room for creativity atmosphere can be condescending rank has privileges
