      What once was a passion has now been dimmed.

      Pros

      Fully remote working environment is nice for work-life balance, but soon that will be a thing of the past.

      Cons

      Inter-office politics rule the day. Rewards and promotions are given on a "good ole boy" kind of paradigm. It's not what you know, how hard you work, or even what you sacrifice to the mission, it is all about who you know. Morale across the board is at an all-time low.

      Non support for oncoming personnel

      Good pay with flexible hours

      Cons

      Apps for locating GPS over several years old. No support for abuse by public in the field as during my 3- month term as census taker and within a month moved up to field supervisor, slammed doors in face, subject to guns intimidation, dog attacks and verbal abuse as a hoax.

      Solid gig, but with a perfect storm of troubles in 2020

      Pros

      Opportunities to problem-solve and troubleshoot hardware and software issues. Straightforward training, practical instructions and knowledge base articles provided for help with troubleshooting, comfortable indoor environment (for office workers, not the enumerators), decent pay. Got to travel to other locations sometimes to help train new enumerators.

      Cons

      Lots of staff turnover and burnout. Often very little direction or comprehension from offsite upper management. Even before COVID-19 hit, a co-worker who had worked for the Census in 4 previous decades said that this was by far the least organized and most chaotically implemented Census she had ever worked.
