Disastrous Management

Business Outlook

Pros

You can set your hours.

Cons

Weather: you have to work outside ALL the time. Crazy people: "you are in my lawn", "you are in front of my property" "get the hell out of here" "what the hell are you doing?". Poor management they only call you to demand something and are never polite, I understand they are under stress but a "good morning" is not going to kill you. They call or text you any day of the week even if you set that day they as "unavailable". HR or payroll are virtually inexistent and the Supervisor doesn't even care. Any manager can call you at any time and they want to fire you if you don't pick the phone, WTH?. Terrible management.

Pros

The Los Angeles Region of the Census Bureau's ongoing surveys can be real rewarding work. You work with a diverse group of people, contribute meaningful data, and the GS pay scale is competitive with the private sector. Get to travel a good deal and luckily since it is part of the Federal Bureaucracy, there is a pretty clear line between work and life wherein you're never expected or asked to blend the two.

Cons

The Decennial Census leads to a lot of changes in staffing to meet the new needs, and as such, many people are working in roles they are not accustomed to in order to meeting the shifting needs. Upper management leaves much to be desired in how they treat their employees. Sometimes in the accelerated timelines, they fail to empower their people. It makes those of us hired for our intellect and energy feel underappreciated.

Pros

Really there are none in a toxic environment .

Cons

Toxic environment, prohibited hieing practices, very bad management, hotel work environment, discrimination against muslims and other minorities is widely practiced and accepted by human resources and apparently the legal branches of the Census. This is a friwnds only environmwnt that has been politically currupted.
