Pros

Relatively high pay - when you’re working. You can learn a lot about Census operations in a short time period. Fun to be in the field and work with people. Interesting tools. Some of the long-time Census Bureau employees were very knowledgeable. And most people we worked with were very nice.

Cons

Chaotic and wasteful deployment strategies - senior management demanded that we onboard tons of field workers but didn't have work ready for them. Then they decided to repeat the process. This caused a lot of frustration on the front lines, and it probably had a very negative effect on the quality of data being generated.

Pros

Good pay for an hourly job ($25/hour in 2020). They let you know about opportunities to travel further in order to earn more.

Cons

Short-term work - it lasts only as long as they need the help, but still possible to earn a nice bit of extra money.
