Pros

Working with a diverse group of people. Clear training. Opportunities to motivate and empower staff. The census is extremely important for the distribution of funding back to the community. The respondents and co-workers keep the job interesting if you are a "people person". Excellent opportunity for folks who want to gain skills in persuasion (sales) which is a benefit for the canvassers.

Cons

Likely your canvassers sometimes feel overwhelmed, this in turn leads to a high turnover. Due to the time allotted to complete the count, supervisors are required to train newbies throughout the process while simultaneously supporting the vets.

Pros

I gets paycheck some months

Cons

No sick time, no vacation time, no holidays off, no holiday pay, no health insurance, no disability insurance, after training no contact with other members of the census except your supervisor. I was told I must work 20 hours min a week but I could work more ( not to exceed 40 hrs a week). I’m lucky if I work 20 hours a month but if they need something I’m expected to be available at all times. It has been difficult to find a job that I could work and remain with the Census

Pros

Meeting attainable goals means I schedule my time and go about my 98% independently. Again by meeting goals rarely is a supervisor involved. Good pay for work requirements. Work life balance is 100% if this is only gig.

Cons

No in not an answer accepted. No doesn't not mean no. No means convince otherwise. No means I'll come by again tomorrow and look for a yes. No means how about I call you. No means persist. No means you really want to say Yes. No, just No to No.
