Pros

They pay above average, so they are hiring good people coming in.

Cons

They pride themselves on a sales process that is "disrupting the industry." It is clear that a lot of time and resources have been dedicated to that process. The problem is, the senior leadership, who were personally involved in creating the process, based on their time "in the trenches," are fanatical about the process, ignoring the fact that it doesn't work most of the time. They like to tell you how much they would've loved to have this tool when they were in a sales role, but they haven't been in sales for years. Even when you bring in business that is already "sold," and ready to buy/switch, they try to force the buyer to go through the process. So sales people will bring in ready deals, and management will lose them. On the bright side, they pay an above-average base salary. So even if the deals don't close your first couple years, you'll be okay. Just be careful about being sold on The Process when you are interviewing. It doesn't help with sales. You end having to fight the process internally, which affects your ability to close inbound business.

Great Culture and Resources

Pros

- great culture within the company. I came from Brown & Brown previously which was a cutthroat sales environment and management played favorites. USI breeds a helpful culture where everyone is willing to help you succeed - USI provides equity shares for good performance. This is rare in the industry and it translates to hard dollars in your pocket - best in class resource team that is available to assist you on new business and renewal deals you are working. The resource team has helped me close several deals and they are some of the best in the industry. They aren’t paid through your office’s P&L and it does not come out of your pocket if you win the deal. - great commission splits 40/25. Competitive in the industry. Brown & brown was 40/20 - will pay for your expenses if you travel for associations or out of town clients. This is tremendously helpful. It boils down to usi doing whatever it takes to help you win deals and staying behind you all the way

Cons

- big corporate feel. Nearly a 2B revenue company and this comes with the territory.

Pros

Co-workers were great and worked as a team. 28 days of PTO and ability to work from home if needed

Cons

Management is unapproachable and overall unfriendly. They overpay people who do very little compared to those that do most of the work. The biggest issue is the lack of value they have for long time employees, was told that my position was not a 10 year position and it was best to move to something new if I wanted growth my both the Regional CMO and Regional CHRO. There is no gratitude to people who go above and beyond their job description instead you are told to stay in your "swim lane". Regional middle management needs to be held accountable for their actions instead of HR telling employee's they no there is a problem but not do anything about it. Raises are very small if you get one at all, the same with annual SIP bonus. If you are not in "favor" with management at the time you will get very little and annual goals are unobtainable because they are never reviewed or are changed without notice throughout the year. Summit award is a great program for account management and those will clear metrics to hit in order to receive but if you are in a sales support or admin role then this is subjectively left up to your supervisor to decide.
