Pros

I had a great team in the store. Medical, dental, 401k benefits were aggressive. Close to my home. I love technology and enjoyed showcasing how the products can make life and business easy.

Cons

HORRIBLE management and practices. I was misdirected more than once by my leadership, and they NEVER stood up to take responsibility. I was "coached" for being upset. I was encouraged to apply for a marketing role by my manager, who then did not approve my application. He said, "I could have done that better." A member of my team wanted to have an open Start, Stop, Continue for my team to rate me. It was managed incorrectly. Our Associate Relations woman stated, "It could have been done better," yet I was coached for being upset at the way management handled it. I was encouraged to apply for another role in the company that I have years of experience in. I was called arrogant by the interviewer, behind my back. Yet she looked for her Blackberry all during the process. I had a leader ask me about my thoughts in managing another property. I expressed my interest and he said he would follow up with me in two days. He never did. He ignored calls and emails. He flat out hid like a coward. The company aid off more than 1,000 people. Sad. I was coached for "not embracing and navigating change." I was supposed to be happy about the layoffs as we were, as my manager said, "trimming fat." US Cellular does not place people with valuable experience in leadership. They are all about the "Kool Aid" drinkers. If you ride the Dynamic Organization train, do not have any original ideas of your own, and are a pure "yes' person, this company is for you, until they cut your position. They are getting smoked by every other company and seem to want to react instead of make a serious plan to compete.

A sad story

Pros

Benefits are superb, hours are good

Cons

A once great company to work for reduced to a miserable place for employment. Morale is incredibly low due to constantly being threatened that you will be fired if you do not make enough money for the company. Poor decisions by corporate leadership have led to a major decrease in customer base, yet it is blamed on in store and customer service center employees. The new computer system turned on last summer does not work, preventing employees from providing quality customer service, causing billing nightmares, and major disruptions in service. Research this companies quarterly financial reports for insight into the downward spiral this business is in. Also research their customer facebook posts to see what their customers think. Unless your taking a job as a corporate executive (where the pay is incredible, knowledge of business operations and lack of insight on how to motivate employees are required), then this is not a company you will want to work for.

Pros

Decent insurance, 401K matching up to 5% and one of the diminishing number of companies that offer pensions.

Cons

Benefit cons - stingy PTO policies, not very competitive pay structure. This company is unique in that it is publicly traded, but voting control resides with one family. As followers know, this company divested Chicago, St. Louis and other small markets to Sprint, with the transaction completed in May 2013. This move was designed to allow USCC to focus on their "core" markets - small to mid-size mostly rural markets somewhat underserved by the industry giants. This focus has not paid off in results, with subscriber losses continuing. USCC used to present themselves as the friendly alternative to the behemoths, but due to financial pressures now charge for all the services that the giants do (restocking, ESN changes, etc.,). Also, pricing structures now mirror the industry leaders without the attendant benefits (phone choice, nationwide footprint), etc. Culture - the "Dynamic Organization" which I believe existed mostly in the regions, and not at the home office is just a pretense. Back biting and "throwing people under the bus" is practically an art form. Director level and above are barbarians at the gate, bleeding the company while offering only blue sky strategy ideas that have no chance to succeed. If there is a bright side I don't see it.
