Pros

the benefits here are SUPERB!

Cons

Management is more about (micro) managing and production, rather than leading and inspiring. They aren't the least concerned with empowering their subordinates or investing in their professional growth. There is a HUGE moral problem due to murky communication and micromanagement, and management is severely out of touch with the workflows of those that they manage. They just want you to push out the numbers. They like to brag about their veteran staff member's teenier, however I'm sure if those people could leave they would but they've been grandfathered into their positions and don't have the qualifications/credentials to move anywhere. No room for promotion/growth.

Pros

Lots of smart, committed people that used to drive innovation. Good benefits. If merger with Texas Health happens, there may be additional chances for growth.

Cons

I was there for almost 11 years, and there has been big a change. More fear than innovation. Some of our brightest researchers are leaving and IT support is now in chaos compared to a couple years ago. So many people want to leave and feel that the administration is in it for themselves. Our mission is only words now.

Pros

The best part of working at utsw are the benefits, vacation time, and retirement plan. You will be taken care of in that regard.

Cons

Unless you are a student here or are in a position where you are contributing directly to research do not bother wasting your time and talent with this institution. This is a government entity and the mindset of the people working here is exactly that, cheap and stupid. Things move at such a slow pace and if you take a look at the HR recruitment division you will know why. Months will go by before you hear anything, if you want an answer you need to contact the department yourself. The salaries are low, you are not treated like a valued employee, there’s so much politics and back stabbing. If you want to build your career, advance in a company, actually earn a decent salary then take your talent somewhere else!!! I will not be returning.
