Pros

It’s a great company with some great dreams of growth.

Cons

With growth, the transition period has been a bit hard as they decide what the new model of our HR Department looks like.

Pros

Pay is decent, benefits are not bad, work environment is overall neutral to positive. There are opportunities for development/continuing education. You will be challenged and given tools to improve. This is the place to be if you are invested in laboratory science; you will see all kinds of things and learn to address all kinds of situations. As the largest healthcare provider in the area, UWH will absolutely keep you interested and moving forward--huge test menu, huge volume, always something new. They are truly on the cutting edge as far as equipment/methodology and are constantly implementing new ones. They hire MTs only, generally, and do not allow MLTs to perform high-complexity testing, but if you are an MT looking for a challenge and an overall good work environment, give it a shot.

Cons

There ARE gender-neutral bathrooms practically everywhere in this building, but beyond that, do not expect any degree of administrative/managerial respect or support if you are non-cis. This lab has absolutely no precedent for trans/nb staff, and all the way from the overall director to the department managers there is a uniform reluctance to engage on the topic, let alone use correct pronouns or take gender transitions seriously. You will be ignored in any efforts to establish a "new" or non-traditional appearance/identity. Do not let UW's accolades re:LGB advancement fool you; it emphatically does not include the "T" and likely will not in the near future. Please keep yourself safe.
