To keep your job at UMA as a Learner Services Advisor, you have to try to force students to log into their online classes. People who are illiterate with no technological skills are recruited to attend school and you are closely watched to make sure that you don't warn them to bail out of this school before the first 7 days of enrollment when the student won't be charged and that you continue to hound them to log in when it is obvious they have no desire or ability to attend class. Advisors are overwhelmingly Black or Latino will upper management is White. Right before I resigned my position, more Whites were being hired and I'm sure that's due to the sorry job market in Tampa. There are absolutely no promotional opportunities in the Student Services area. Anyone with an Assistant Director, Director or Senior Director title is hired from outside the company so if you are currently employed there and if you are a person of color, don't even think about applying for any of the aforementioned positions!
