Pros

This is a new company, and everyone is working to make a positive difference in our student lives. This is the only model I am aware of that you actualy change a graduates life for the better. How cool is this.

Cons

so many of citizens could benefit from our educational programs but we can not reach all of them because of limitations of identifying needs through techonolgy.

Pros

If you are totally destitute and have NO other way to earn a living, then accept a job with UMA with the understanding that you are still job searching. So the Pro is that you can earn a salary working for UMA. Benefits are good.

Cons

To keep your job at UMA as a Learner Services Advisor, you have to try to force students to log into their online classes. People who are illiterate with no technological skills are recruited to attend school and you are closely watched to make sure that you don't warn them to bail out of this school before the first 7 days of enrollment when the student won't be charged and that you continue to hound them to log in when it is obvious they have no desire or ability to attend class. Advisors are overwhelmingly Black or Latino will upper management is White. Right before I resigned my position, more Whites were being hired and I'm sure that's due to the sorry job market in Tampa. There are absolutely no promotional opportunities in the Student Services area. Anyone with an Assistant Director, Director or Senior Director title is hired from outside the company so if you are currently employed there and if you are a person of color, don't even think about applying for any of the aforementioned positions!

Pros

The company and upper management is very laid back. They pay you top dollar for your experience, skills, and ability to get the job done, and in return, they give you ultimate freedom. Basically, anyone is in charge of their own destiny within the company, but it is tough to meet the number goals, because they only recruit the best of the best.

Cons

Everyone that works there is being paid great money to be there and do well. Since everyone achieved such great successes at their former positions, they are expected to do the same at UMA and it can get pretty cutthroat.
