Pros

They do a really good job at selling themselves. But once you start working here you see how ridiculous this all is. Especially working with the demographic that is targeted.

Cons

They pretend to be non-profit, but they basically harass students for not logging on after 3-4 days and are doing okay to bad. The only reason they care about these students is for retention so they don't lose a student for financial gains. They also throw these meetings to celebrate the top performers but their pay rate starts at $18 and there isn't much pay rate increase. PTO is awful because you basically get 1 working day every month. There is no such thing as a sick day either. The health benefits offered are also useless unless you rarely visit the hospital. You have to take care of 180+ students as well. When you've called your TOP50 students they try to pressure you to call the ones that didn't answer 3xs. "Morning, Lunch and Dinner" calls. And then you have to fit in the middle of your day to call your co-workers students that are on the verge of being dismissed due to non-attendance. Which leads to almost 8+ phone calls a day.

Pros

To be honest, aside from 16 dollars an hour, it really isn't a lot of pros when you factor in that as a csa, you are apart of a swindle most of the times. There may be a few instances where your helping to "Change Lives". But mostly the career service is advisor is a used car salesman. Working for a buy here pay here. And the stupid huddles and goofy chants. Read below before this is removed.

Cons

Where do we begin? If you just so happen to get a job here keep this overview in mind. Out of a class of 30 by the 90 day point it will only be 10 of you left. With that being said, if you have major bills and a family this job may put you in harms way. Here is why. Your success is based on the region they choose for you. It's all about who they like or who referred you. More than likely you will be in places that are outside of major cities that rarely hire because there is little to no turn over at these jobs. The the graduates are from low income impoverished backgrounds that in most cases either can't interview well or have background issues. My point is Uma is a racket. At your expense mind you because it's only designed for a few to stay past the 90 days. Oh, how can I forget , they hire every month. You do the math. Now the conclusion, I'm surprised that there hasn't been a class action lawsuit. The floor is filled with the under tones of labor violations, discrimination and mental abuse. IF YOUR SMART DO NO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Helping soon-to-be graduates prepare for and find jobs within their field of study, before they have any relevant experience, is not an easy job. But that is the mission we sign up for when joining the Academy. And we do change lives for the better every day. But don't take my word for it, hear from 21,000 students and alumni on Facebook and watch their teary-eyed stories on YouTube; you'll easily conclude what we have - this IS a great mission. Here's my advice for you: focus on yourself and not others, as you cannot control which co-worker will work hard and which will not; you cannot control who will nail that rural job placement, and who will not. But you can work hard, you can work smart, and you can do great in this world. I hope you find a career that leads you down this rewarding path. Being positive is the first step to being successful.
