Pros

Did I mention...THE BEST COWORKERS EVER!

Cons

The management has to go. It sucks to say it but they do an EXCELLENT job of PRETENDING to care about you and what you bring to the table but the truth is that if you work hard and are about your business you will be overlooked. It's a lot of favoritism at that company and if you aren't buddy buddy with them, you're pretty much out the door.

Pros

People were awesome, but we all bonded over being screwed over by the system at UG.

Cons

Employees are overworked. When staff leaves, filling positions isn't a priority and work is passed on to another team mate who may or may not be compensated monetarily for the new responsibilities (or compensated marginally.) So many smart and amazing people working there who aren't being utilized to their full potential. So many great ideas that aren't being considered.

Pros

- Friendly company culture with a lot of very smart and passionate people. Everyone works hard, and is very motivated. Managers really care about their people and their business. - Lots of employee perks: monthly company lunches and snacks, good company discount, volunteer days and more. - Strong company philosophy of making a positive impact which is seen in the types of merchandise sold, the better to give program, the packing materials used, and the fact that minimum hourly wage is 50% above the NYC minimum wage, amongst other things. - UncommonGoods is focused on constant improvement and is always striving to do things better. Although things don’t always move as quickly as would be ideal, there is always a lot happening. - There aren't many companies like UncommonGoods still based in NY and the company is committed to keeping all parts of the business in a single location.

Cons

- UG is a relatively flat organization so there is not a lot of opportunity for quick upward movement. However, managers can provide opportunities through projects and other horizontal development. - Centralized decision making is not always communicated clearly, which can cause frustration. - With such a focus on improvement, successes aren't always celebrated as much as they should be.
