Stay away from Corporate

Pros

The checks never bounced. There aren't any other pros I can think of. Beware the vacation policy sucks. If you don't negotiate it on the way in (which is 2 weeks standard), then you have to wait an entire year to get it. Unless you negotiate more...there is no consistency.

Cons

Terrible Management. No communication. Did mass layoffs after celebrating the annual founder's day...what a joke. No appreciation for employees. A lame $30 gift card for Christmas that you get taxed on. Bonuses just for Supervisors and Managers. Corporate is like a high school environment. Better find your click and quick. Oh and know who to sit with at lunch. 6 holidays, 2 floaters. You have to beg to be let out early before major holidays...and then the CEO graciously lets people out at 3pm. It's definitely run like a mom and pop shop. There is nothing good about this company. So glad I left. I just want to warn people who are thinking of working at Corporate. VERY LOW SALARIES...WAY BELOW MARKET. If you want minimum wage...then by all means work there. I wish I would have know then, what I know now....you wonder why it takes so long to fill jobs and why people keep leaving.

HORRIBLE PLACE TO WORK

Pros

Only pro I can think of is not having to be in an office all day and free lunch we occasionally received

Cons

When you interview they tell you that you will make $60,000 a year. After you go through the interview process and sign your offer they tell you that your ramp up commission bonuses are INCLUDED in the salary. They told us you will receive a bonus after the first ramp up and you bust your butt to get the bonus and then they claim the first one was only a qualifier. That's right, if you do not hit your FIRST bonus you are not eligible for a bonus the rest of the year. Commission is a JOKE. It's less than 2% and they always find reasons to not pay you the full commission promised. Orders take too long to key and when you do get the orders in and are delivered, SOMETHING IS ALWAYS MESSED UP and they want to take it out of your personal check to fix their issues. They tell you they give you mileage pay and gas but we only got paid for 290 miles while driving close to 600+ a week. This 'reimbursement' is paid through your weekly check so the taxes taken out leave you with nothing. When I started there were no reps. Everyone quit and didn't realize this UNTIL the first day on the job. They require 5 weeks of training that they spend tons of money on. Spending that much money on training is pointless when the turnover rate is as high as it is at this place. Maybe if they took some of the training money and put it towards the employees who are actually making the business money, more would stay. You can't expect employees to destroy their vehicles and pay out of pocket to run someone else's business. Also, the weekly activities and goals they want is IMPOSSIBLE to reach. They want MINIMUM of 16 cold calls a day. If you were a smart business owner the amount of activities you drag your employees to do mean nothing if the person selling isn't building relationships with the customers they're interacting with. You can't build relationships hitting up 16-20 places A DAY! On top of that, if you do not sell anything for the week you get chewed out and talked down to like a dog. Nothing you do for this company is good enough. It's sad that the management of this company has to MAKE their employees leave good reviews just so it makes them look good. Every good review on here are from employees who hated this place but were bribed by management to be posted! Terrible place to work and I highly recommend to look the other way. Working at a grocery store is better than working at this place

Pros

In comparison to other companies and their sales organizations I cant honestly think of one pro that Unifirst offers.

Cons

Wow, where to begin. I guess first thing is just look at the reviews its either five star or one star. Very little middle ground. Unifirst is very concious of their image as it relates to their ability to attract new salespeople and as such will "encourage" current employees to leave rave reviews and check on them later. Now the "Cons" Unifirst has a horrible rate of turnover that tops 80%. At that clip it's time for Unifirst to look inward because the system is broken. I'm also confused by the folks that think the training program is great. It consists of watching video lessons in the office for five weeks and then being told to go into territory. I have been in sales over ten years and was shocked at the poor quality of training Unifirst provided. They really believe they are on the cutting edge of technology by employing a cloud based CRM system. I was told that i was mistaken when I informed them that every competitor had adopted salesforce at least a couple of years before. These guys really do define the the stereotype of blind homers that fail to see the real world competitive landscape. Overall just not a very bright group of people in mid management. Their base pay is by far the lowest in the industry. No matter what your geographical location the starting salary is $35k. They will give you $160 a week for gas and car and if you are among the 3% that meet the weekly quota you can make another $10k. That added together is where most of the competition starts their salespeople. One other quick thing to remember, if you do happen to join them, is during the first five weeks of training. You receive none of the gas allowance and will be paid $12 an hour. They like to wait until your first day to tell you that There is also this creepy almost religious like devotion to the company founder. They have have a founders day party and posters with his likeness and sayings everywhere. The guy passed away a decade ago but he is spoken of like he is still in control. Its just one of those things you have to experience to understand.

UniFirst Corporation encourages employees to share information with co-workers and with those outside the company for the purposes of gathering information, generating new ideas, and learning from the work of others. While we feel that we have in place a sales training structure that enables our employees to be successful, we are continuing looking for better ways to help our employees meet and exceed their own personal goals as well as organizational goals. Many factors cause employee retention problems and here at UniFirst we are continuously working diligently to provide opportunities for our employees to understand the organization 's goals and to recognize how their individual roles fit into the big picture. UniFirst values what each individual employee brings to the overall success of our organization and will continue to invest and explore ways to uphold morale while producing a positive working environment that fulfills personal and professional success.
