Pros

In my opinion the biggest pro about working for UniFirst is the ability to grow with the company. I have been with the company for over 3 years and have been promoted 4 times.

Cons

The biggest con about working for UniFirst is the vacation packages. It takes time to develop vacation and I understand earning your keep, but it is important to be able to take a couple days off a year. In your first year with UniFirst you are only allowed 1 personal day and 5 sick days.

Pros

UniFirst operates under the core values of a Customer Focus, Respect for Others, and a Committment to Quality. These values are upheld through a number of processes and procedures in place within the company. Location leaders maintain an open-door policy and are always willing to help employees grow within their careers and as individuals. Senior leadership is very active and hands-on with locations and their employees. There are great training programs in place for each position to help you succeed; it is up to you to take advantage of it. UniFirst always focuses on continual improvement - and your voice is heard: If you as an employee feel something could be changed for the better, you are encouraged to speak up (and will even be rewarded if policies/procedures are changed due to your input). The company likes to promote from within and there are seemingly always opportunities to move up. If you follow the training and processes in place for your position, you will succeed, and promotion opportunities will come your way. UniFirst also has a full line of insurance options, profit sharing, 401k, etc. I have been treated very well during my time with the company and have enjoyed working here.

Cons

As with any large company, there are many policies and procedures to follow to accomplish things. While there are many benefits to this, the downside is it can slow things down.

Pros

The people in general have a positive, upbeat attitude and approach situations with kindness and courtesy. UniFirst has consistently been ranked in upper echelon of companies and was ranked number one recently vs all competitors in Apparel Magazine (10 in best apparel company overall, behind companies such as Nike, 8, and ahead of the Gap, 12). The company values doing good work and their behavior reflects that. In my experience here, interaction with other UniFirst employees has been pleasant. Also for the work, it varies depending where you are, but while at times you are pushed, the company is managed well enough to give support to those overtaxed.

Cons

There is a disconnect between corporate and actual plant locations that can be hard to bridge, which can be frustrating. Actions tend to move at a slower pace than what feels necessary, leaving something to be desired
