Pros
Colleagues are hardworking and able to navigate chaos/constant change
Cons
You are about to start a new job at Unidine and you’re thinking the grass may be a little greener than where you were. But then you get there and realize the “grass” is a site of a nuclear explosion and no grass grows here at all... Welcome to Unidine. As a disclaimer, I can only speak to the Boston USC Headquarters and not the field. The CEO and Leadership walk around monitoring employees in the office and every move is judged. Employees are suddenly fired regardless of position, tenure etc. without an improvement plan for no reason other than they disagreed with something the CEO said, or he just did not like them. On the flip side you’re reprimanded for doing something “the CEO doesn’t like” such as eating at your desk, hanging your jacket off your chair or having too many things on your desk. So, when they warn you during your interview that the CEO is very “particular” don’t just laugh it off BUT RUN. You would think that during a pandemic, it would be the company’s time to shine and do the right thing… think again. When the universal agreed upon “right thing” is x they will consistently do y. Not only was any sign of employee anxiety laughed off as being “dramatic and paranoid” the total inability to trust employees while they were remote and couldn’t be seen constantly led to most employees being forced to commute into the office throughout the height of COVID-19. Those that were graciously allowed to be remote were checked in on regularly and unexpectedly and made to note what they have been working on. Then, the moment the Governor relaxed the shut down (despite still recommending employers allow their employees to work from home) the rest of the office was forced back in. Off we went to our very important essential worker office job putting ourselves and families at risk to appease a team that has adopted the philosophy that you couldn’t possibly be working extra hours if they couldn’t see you sitting at your cubical. While all of this was occurring, our salaries had also been reduced despite that most of the business THRIVED during the pandemic (including the addition of new accounts) and other employees were getting promoted. Every day is something out of a movie or a 1950s workplace, but it is real life in 2020 and you cannot imagine that even that era was this dysfunctional. It makes for great “can you believe this?” conversations with fellow colleagues and even more “you won’t believe what happened today” with friends on the outside. And leadership who is in the position to improve the culture and turn the negativity around- have sold their soul for a hefty paycheck and are complicit in enabling it all to continue. While I can’t warn my naïve past self, all I can say is if you have any respect for your dignity and mental/overall health this is not the place for you.
