Something is Rotten in the state of Lewin

Pros

Pay is not bad. PTO is very generous. If you're lucky, there can be opportunities to get on some really cool projects.

Cons

THE WORK: If you are one of the unlucky ones (by virtue of being employed at Lewin, you are unlucky), then you will be assigned to a project that has absolutely nothing to do with your skillset, absolutely nothing do with your interests, will feel remedial at times, and do absolutely nothing to move your career forward. SENIOR STAFF: Where to begin? The senior staff do not care about you. The senior staff do not know how to manage. They are in the office once every 2 weeks. They do not know what you are working on or how much effort you are putting into something. They will give you incredibly inconsistent and unclear directions. THE CULTURE: None. MOVING UP OR OUT: a.) Promotions are not based on merit. Good luck. b.) If you are performing poorly, you will not be fired. Rather, you will either be assigned NO work or menial tasks to pass the time until you can't take it anymore and leave out of frustration. It's better than getting fired, but you can't take a company seriously if they're not willing to address issues like this when presented. WHAT YOU GET OUT OF IT: Best case scenario: [INSERT LENGTH OF TIME] years of experience on resume. No new or transferrable skills to any other job. Worse case scenario: Clinical depression FINAL THOUGHTS: Maybe you have a weird masochist personality and want to work here after reading this, but I would highly advise against it.

Pros

*Interview was very fair and well-structured. *PAY is excellent for the field. PTO starts at 18 days/year and I think after 5 years goes up to 24. Plus 7 holidays/year. *Telecommuting and in-home visits. *Given a nice desk, computer monitor/mouse, laptop, and iPhone by the company *Excellent management team. Open to suggestions and very positive. *We use the "Jabber" instant message program which is a great alternative to phone calls and e-mails. *Excellent training. Great team atmosphere. *The company doesn't seem riddled with bureaucracy and red tape like many do. Very forward-thinking. *Many opportunities for growth in the company.

Cons

*In this position there's always danger of going to strangers' houses. I've also brought fleas home. *Working from home presents challenges when needing to contact the helpdesk/IT. They can be slow to respond. *Health insurance benefits are not great, but it seems that way everywhere now.
